Getting started

Import your data

Create a reusable dataset from a CSV, Excel workbook or PostgreSQL table. The import flow lets you check the data before adding it to your workspace.

Import a CSV or Excel file

  1. Open Datasets and select Import Dataset.
  2. Choose the file upload option, then select a .csv, .xlsx or .xls file.
  3. Review the Preview step. Check that headings, dates and numeric values match the source file.
  4. Continue to Profile to inspect fill rates, missing values, unique values and numeric summaries for the sampled rows.
  5. Enter a descriptive Dataset Name and select Create Dataset.

For a CSV with a specific separator or encoding, open Advanced options before selecting the file. Delimiter can detect the separator automatically or use the character you enter. Encoding supports UTF-8 and Windows-1252. Set First row is headers to match your file.

The Excel import reads the workbook's first worksheet. Place the table you want to import there, with one row of headings and consistent columns.

The preview and profile describe the sample shown during import. Use the dataset's analytics after creation to examine its available profile and data quality in more detail.

Use a PostgreSQL table

Start with a saved PostgreSQL connection. In the data-source flow, choose the connection and table, inspect its preview and profile, then name the dataset.

You can also use the table directly in a workflow: add Database Source, choose Table, and select the connection and table. Use View for a database view.

Add the dataset to a workflow

Open Workflows → New workflow, add Database Source, and choose Dataset. Select the dataset you created, then connect preparation tools such as Filter, Aggregate and Sort.

To upload from the canvas itself, add the File tool and configure its source file. Both entry points let you build a repeatable preparation workflow around your data.

Choose a dataset name that describes the source or business purpose. If the name already exists, the app offers a matching dataset to reuse where appropriate, or you can enter a new name.

Continue with Build your first workflow.
