Sort
Use Sort to put results in a useful reading order: highest revenue first, customers alphabetically, or transactions from earliest to latest. Multiple columns let you define how tied values should be ordered.
Set the sort order
- Connect Sort after a configured source or transformation.
- Under Sort By, select Add Column.
- Choose the column and set its direction to ascending or descending.
- Add another column when you need a secondary sort.
- Drag the rules to change their priority. The top rule is applied first.
After an Aggregate that produces region and total_revenue, sort total_revenue descending to put the largest region first. Add region ascending as a second rule to give equal totals a consistent alphabetical order.
Choose the right column
The column list reflects the output of the preceding tool. After a rename or aggregation, use the resulting column name. If an upstream change removes a selected column, choose its replacement or remove that sort rule.
Check the direction after adding a column: the suggested direction depends on its data type.
Set explicit text ordering
Under Dictionary, enable Sort by Dictionary to choose the C or POSIX byte-order collation. Use this when you need explicit text ordering across runs. Otherwise, leave the option off to use the database's normal collation.
Attach Preview to inspect the ordered rows, or Output to save the result as a reusable dataset.
